Use of Funds

Since its inception in November 1998, the Condega Homemakers project has raised more than $66,000, comprised of $13,000 in private donations and $53,000 in foundation grants. We received major funding from American Jewish World Service, Daniele Agostino Foundation, and The Sharing Fund of The Riverside Church.

CHP Income: $66,410

The majority of these funds, about $42,000, paid for the construction of 10 houses, two more than our initial goal. To complete the houses, CHP provided each household with a "lavandera," or concrete laundry basin.

We spent $9,000 on tools and machinery, including a cement mixer, generator, and spray varnisher that have tremendously increased productivity in the construction.

$3,700 in foundation grants went towards travel assistance for volunteers, leaving more than $2,900 in foundation grants earmarked to assist volunteers on future brigades.

We used $1,800 in private donations on operating costs, including office supplies, printing, postage, Internet registration, post office box, voicemail, and transportation. Another $1,400 covered the administrative fee charged by MADRE, our fiscal sponsor.

CHP Expenses: $58,676

We currently hold approximately $7,700, which we will use this year for travel assistance and building materials for Phase II of the construction project.

CHP is currently seeking additional funding to continue to finance projects with the women's groups in Condega.

Carryover to Phase II: $7,734
